How to Measure Your Child for the Perfect Bike Fit

Ordering a kids bike online is easier than ever — and getting the right size doesn’t mean guessing. With just one simple measurement, you can confidently choose a bike that’s safe, comfortable, and fun to ride.
🎯 The Most Important Measurement: Inside Leg (Inseam)
Forget height charts or guessing based on age — your child’s inside leg measurement (inseam) is the key to finding the right size bike.
Every bike on our website includes a recommended inside leg range. We personally measure every model to ensure these ranges are accurate, so you can shop with confidence. You can even filter bikes by inside leg using our search tool.
📏 How to Measure Inside Leg (Inseam)
To measure your child’s inside leg correctly, follow these steps:
-
Stand your child against a wall, with their back and heels touching it.
-
Feet should be an adult hand’s width apart — around 15cm.
-
Take a firm-backed book and place it vertically between their legs, like a saddle.
-
Gently raise the book until it meets the crotch — similar to how a bike saddle would sit.
-
Keeping the book in place, ask your child to step away from the wall.
-
Measure from the floor to the top of the book in centimetres.
-
Repeat twice to get a consistent, accurate result.
🛠️ Understanding Bike Sizing (For the Curious Parent)
-
Wheel size is what you’ll see most often (e.g. 14”, 16”, 20”) and is measured from one edge of the tyre to the opposite edge.
-
Frame size is less common in kids bikes but refers to the distance from the centre of the crank to the point where the seat post enters the frame.
✅ Tip:
Measure with shoes on if your child will be riding with shoes. If you’re between sizes, it’s usually better to go smaller for easier handling.
